Abstract

Smoking behavior in adolescents is based on ignorance which causes attitudes and actions of adolescents to tend to be negative. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of the Brainstorming, Buzz Group, and Simulation (BBS) method on reducing smoking in adolescents. This study uses a quasi-experimental design. The sampling technique used simple random sampling. The sample size of the study was 40 respondents, the implementation was carried out in 4 sessions for 1 month, with a duration of 100 inutes/session. The independent variable in this study was the BBS method and the dependent variable was smoking. Data were collected using questionnaires and smoking monitoring sheets. The statistical test used was the Wilcoxon sign rank test and the Mann Whitney test. The results of the McNemar test showed a difference before and after the intervention in the action (p = 0.002). The results of the Mann Whitney test showed that there was an effect of the BBS method on smoking (p=0.005). The BBS method intervention can reduce smoking. Therefore, the BBS method can be an alternative choice in promotive and preventive efforts to deal with adolescent smoking.
