Abstract
Penyakit infeksi merupakan salah satu permasalahan kesehatan yang disebabkan oleh mikroorganisme seperti bakteri. Bakteri patogen yang sering menyebabkan infeksi pada manusia secara nosokomial adalah bakteri Staphylococcus aureus. Banyaknya kasus infeksi akibat bakteri maka diperlukan pengobatan alternatif dalam mengatasi masalah ini dengan memanfaatkan bahan-bahan aktif antibakteri seperti lengkuas merah yang sudah digunakan secara turun-temurun dan khasiatnya sudah terbukti secara empiris yang memiliki kandungan senyawa flavonoid, fenol dan terpenoid sebagai antibakteri. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efektivitas antibakteri ekstrak lengkuas merah (Alpinia Purpurata K.Schum) terhadap pertumbuhan bakteri Stpahylococcus aureus dengan konsentrasi 20%,40%,60%,80% dan 100%. Jenis penelitian ini merupakan deskriptif dengan menggunakan sampel bakteri Staphylococcus aureus dengan teknik purposive sampling. Uji efektivitas antibakteri dilakukan menggunakan metode difusi cakram. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa rata-rata zona hambat ekstrak lengkuas merah (Alpinia Purpurata K.Schum) pada konsentrasi 20% zona hambat 5 mm termasuk kategori lemah, konsenstrasi 40% zona hambat 7 mm termasuk kategori sedang, konsentrasi 60% zona hambat 8,5 mm termasuk kategori sedang, konsentrasi 80% zona hambat 11 mm termasuk kategori kuat, dan konsenstrasi 100% zona hambat 12 mm termasuk kategori kuat. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak lengkuas merah (Alpinia purpurata K.Schum) mampu menghambat pertumbuhan bakteri Staphylococcus aureus dengan rata-rata zona hambat kategori lemah,sedang dan ku
