Abstract

Pendahuluan Streptococcus pyogenes atau dikenal dengan Streptococcus beta hemoliticus group A merupakan salah satu penyebab tersering dari faringitis. Faringitis yang tidak diobati dapat menimbulkan komplikasi supuratif maupun non supuratif. Madu mengandung zat yang berguna untuk membunuh bakteri patogen penyebab penyakit infeksi. Efek antibakterimadu disebabkan oleh tingkat keasaman yang tinggi, hidrogen peroksida, tekanan osmotik yang tinggi dan adanya senyawa organik yang bersifat antibakteri. Tujuan Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui efektifitas madu dalam menghambat pertumbuhan kuman Streptococcus pyogenes. Metode penelitian ini dilakukan secara eksperimental murni laboratorium (True Eksperimental) dengan rancangan penelitian Post Test only Control Group Design. Perlakuan terdiri dari sediaan madu dengan konsentrasi 20%, 40%, 60%, 80% dan 100% serta kontrol positif menggunakan amoxicilin. Masing-masing perlakuan dilakukan 3 kali pengulangan. Pengujian antibakteri dilakukan dengan metode difusi padat menggunakan kertas cakram.Hasil Madu dengan konsentrasi 20%, 40%, 60%, 80% dan 100% menghambat pertumbuhan bakteri Streptococcus pyogenes dengan rata-rata zona hambat masing-masing yaitu 3,7 mm, 6mm, 11,7 mm, 15,3mmdan 19 mm. Kesimpulan Madu mampu menghambat pertumbuhan Streptococcus pyogenes. Semakin tinggi konsentrasi madu, maka akan semakin besar daya hambat terhadap bakteri.
